Dumping Without A Conscience!

Residents continue to dump bulk waste in an indiscriminate manner at dumpsters, especially at the bin located at the junction of Canaan and Free Bottom roads.

The above photograph was taken yesterday, January 10 and it is quite evident that the appeal from the Solid Waste Department to take bulky waste directly to the incinerator at Pockwood Pond has been ignored by some residents.

Late last year, a resident speaking at the Fifth District meeting held at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall, pleaded with residents to stop dumping discarded household items at public bins.

According to the resident, the items are left in full view of the public for days before they are removed. All of this happens despite a sign posted by the Solid Waste Department which says 'No dumping of bulky waste in this area'.

This will continue as long as the unenforcement of our laws continues. Investigate. Find out whose things those are and then fine the heck out of them, rinse, repeat every time it happens and, in a year's time, they'll have understood the message.

It's really not rocket science!

Chuups...Nasty set ah...aye this is wa rat like to see. The rat dem probably grinding all through that muck. I think we should set up some kind of system where those stuff can be picked up at a certain time in each district..that should be able to help.

I think Government could have a day to collect bulky stuff when people from each district could put them out. The problem is not everyone has access to a truck or can afford to pay a truck to take away their bulky garbage. The site of that picture makes me sick and mad to know that people could... more

They must have had transport to get it there, unless they live right next door, so they could take it to the incinerator themselves. There is another pile of old building materials by the dumster along Hannahs today.

This excuse of "not having access a truck" or "lack of funds to transport the waste" is really starting to get stale. People with trucks are the ones who are are doing this crime.

They do need to schedule a pick up day & time. I live in the US and my schedule day & time is on Wednesday's for bulky waste. I don't think a camera would help because some of us(Tortola residents) are so ignorant.

The answer to this is very easy! Put up a simple camera in each of the troubled spots and you'll catch the perps red handed! Looking at that picture makes me want to puke! That is really disgusting, these people have no conscience whatsoever, DAMN!!

People dump waste not only at dumpsters but also on other people's private lands that are vacant. Worse, you pay a trucker to take away the junk to the incinerator, they take your money but dump it at the nearest vacant lot where they will not be noticed. And yes, it is for the most part, the... more

I understand your points but I still think it's easy! It's not a matter of who dumps the stuff. If folks know that they're being watched/monitored, they won't do it!
