This year, the Road Town Festival Village will have increased security with the installation of revolving emergency lights as part of increased measures to safeguard attendees.
Today, July 16 when BVI Platinum News visited the grounds, works were being carried out to complete the building of booths in the village.
Franche Gumbs, Chairperson of the Village Sub-Committee said this year there are 21 booths, which is the same amount when compared to last year. He said the village, including the stage, is 75 percent completed.
Gumbs said the Coney Island should arrive in the Territory between today and tomorrow, and will be ready by this weekend.
Gumbs disclosed that there will be increased security this year with the installation of revolving emergency red lights, directing persons to the exit in the event of an emergency. He said there will also be increased lighting and commented on the new fencing for the village.
Further, this year there will be a directory of the village which will be posted at the gate and with this, persons will be directed to where the different booths are located, including the festival booth, Police and medical personnel.
Gumbs noted that this year there will be four paying nights compared to three paying nights last year.
The Festival Village in Road Town, which is named in honour of Claudette 'Boopie' Smith, opens on July 26 with a Gospel Fest.
