The partial paving of sections of the Manse Road has been completed and it will be opened to vehicular traffic during the August Monday Parade tomorrow, August 6 from 10:00 am.

Hon. Mark Vanterpool, Minister for Communications and Works has stated that the widening exercise for the Manse Road, which serves as an alternate route in the Road Town area, has been completed and the works being done now are under phase III of the project.

When asked what phase III is costing Government, the Minister said the figure is in the range of $400,000.00.

The Works Minister explained the scope of work that will be done under phase III of the project.

"They are establishing on the side as you can see, what they call a box drain. The road is going to be sloped towards the box drain so that the water off the road goes into the box drain and goes into the main drain that goes across down to the ghut that passes eventually along Franklins down there and out into the sea. They are working on the box drain on the side right now and in the meantime, they are also working on the road paving, which will obviously be two lanes coming down."

He added, "They have already started paving one lane; they will soon be finishing that coming down today [Friday, August3]. The second lane will be handled tomorrow and hopefully between Sunday and Monday, they will have it ready to open; definitely by Monday they will have it opened..."

The project manager is Greg Hodge.

Previously, Minister Vanterpool stated that the paving of the road is to make it a lot easier to avoid the dust affecting neighbors in the area who have been cooperating with Government.

He had also thanked the landowners, who have agreed and signed to allow Government access to their property to widen the road.
