Newly crowned Miss BVI 2012/2013, Sharie de Castro has promised to work diligently to promote her platform and to be very visible during her reign. Her platform was focused on education.
After being announced the winner on Sunday, August 5 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, de Castro, 21, told BVI Platinum News that she will use different avenues to solicit the views of residents in her quest to promote her platform.
"I think definitely I just need to be around the people so I can hear exactly what their concerns are, as well as using new technology like twitter, facebook...just to hear what people really, really want changed in the BVI," she stated.
de Castro, an English teacher at the Elmore Stoutt High School, assured that she will be visible in the community.
"Just expect me to be very visible in the community at events, just emphasizing the need for people to get involved in the BVI, especially with our young people because they are the future," de Castro stated.
de Castro, who also captured Miss Congeniality, the People's Choice Award, Miss Poised, Best Talent, Best BVI Promotional Speech, Best Personal Interview and Miss Intellect, said it feels good to be the new Miss BVI and admitted that she had a few nervous moments on stage.
