The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office has indicated that they will have overseas witnesses testifying in the drug and firearm case against Violet Letty Hodge and Lucien Smith.
Hodge is charged with conspiracy to import drugs; acquisition, possession or use of proceeds of criminal conduct; keeping a prohibited firearm; and unlawful possession of explosives. She was jointly charged with her husband, Earl Delville Hodge known as 'Bob Hodge'.
Smith is charged with unlawful possession of cocaine with intent to supply.
When the two reappeared in court together with the five men wanted by the United States Government in relation to an alleged drug ring, DPP Wayne Rajbansie told the court that Smith and Hodge's matter is now separate from the men.
Meanwhile, the local charges against the five men were discontinued and a fresh extradition request was issued by the US Government. The men are Earl Delville Hodge known as 'Bob Hodge'; Customs Officer Roberto Harrigan known as 'Tico'; Chad Skelton; Carlston Beazer; and Juan Valdez. A hearing for the extradition request will be set on November 2 when they reappear in court.
Prosecutor Valston Graham stated that the witnesses will be testifying via video link in relation to the trial involving Smith and Hodge.
Both Hodge and Smith, who are on bail, will return to court on November 2.
