Law enforcement agencies have joined forces to increase random operations to ascertain the status of migrants residing in the Territory.
The Police Information Office today, July 12, disclosed that last week Police joined with Immigration and Customs Officers in conducting immigration checks on individuals in Road Town, East End and Purcell Estate in an effort to reduce the number of undocumented workers living and working in the Territory.
During the checks, a number of persons were asked to verify their work permit status.
The office stated that over the weekend, Police closed two bars for the night and shut down another two until they were able to produce licenses to operate in the East End area.
"In this Police operation, at least two of the bars had exceeded the opening hours for bars under the law, while another two could not produce licenses to operate and therefore were told to shut their doors until a permit to operate was produced," Police stated.
Superintendent of Operation, St. Clair Amory, who led a team of officers on Saturday evening, explained that these operations are intended to curtail illegal activity in and around these establishments and to identify those who are operating illegally.
"These Police operations are important to ensure that bars are following the law in adhering to the closing hours which addresses community concerns regarding excessive noise as prescribed by law, as well as having the up-to-date licenses to operate. We will be conducting these operations around the Territory," Superintendent Amory stated.
