A resident is pleading for the return of a large boat propeller with great sentimental significance and valued between $20,000.00 - $30,000.00. The propeller was stolen in broad daylight from a yard on Waterfront Drive shortly after 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 10.
Craig deCastro related that his mother left the property and returned about an hour later when it was observed that the propeller was missing.
"There are usually two vehicles that usually hide the propeller in the yard. The vehicles were moved yesterday morning and within an hour when they returned home, the propeller was gone," deCastro stated yesterday, July 11.
Explaining that the item has sentimental value, he said the propeller was taken off of his grandfather's old cargo boat.
He said there is another propeller, but that one is connected to a shaft and is very difficult to move.
"The one that was stolen is closer to the house and that was just the propeller alone. It has been there for some 40 years. Apart from it being stolen, my mother is concerned over the fact that it was done in broad daylight and wonders if persons can do that. It is frightening to think what they would do in the evening," deCastro stated.
He believes that the propeller can still be used and believes that whoever took it must have used a vehicle with a crane.
Investigators have visited the location and are conducting enquiries.
According to deCastro, the family was contemplating releasing it to the Marine Centre at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.
At this rate we should soon expect the statues to start disappearing. Who is going to be first? Thomas, Lloyd or Sir Olva?
