Magistrate Tamia Richards this morning, July 23, sentenced Lenn Leonard to thirty months in prison in relation to the unlawful possession of 3.4 kilograms of cannabis.
Leonard, 37, a BVIslander who pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to supply, was represented by Attorney at Law Anthea Smith.
The maximum sentence for the offence is three years in prison or a fine of $100,000. The Magistrate pointed out that the court has an obligation to send a message.
On March 18 of last year, officers executed a search warrant on his residence and they heard a noise coming from the area of the kitchen. When the officers entered the premises, a strong scent of what was suspected to be cannabis came from the inside. The back door of the home was ajar. Officers saw two lines hanging from the kitchen door with cannabis plants and cannabis seeds were found inside the home.
The father of two children, ages seven years and five months, told officers at the Police Station that he had no knowledge of the drugs.
