A seventeen year old teenager of Paraquita Bay was given a suspended sentence after admitting to burglarizing the home of former Public Works Department (PWD) Director, Dr. Drexel Glasgow at Little Dix Hill. During the 2010 burglary, a number of items totaling $5,260 were taken, including several watches.
Earlier this week, the teen was sentenced to three years in prison, suspended for two years. This means that if he commits another criminal offence within two years, the three year sentence will be activated by the court.
He was represented by Attorney at Law Stephen Daniels. Justice Albert Redhead that he is giving him a chance by not imprisoning him and it's the only chance he will ever get in his life.
He had pleaded guilty to burglary.
Daniels during plea in mitigation asked for a non custodial sentence for his client. He argued that the teenager was 16 years old at the time of the incident and though he has previous convictions, they were not similar to that of burglary.
Daniels said he is someone who can be rehabilitated, noting that he attends the Technical Vocational Institute and he is a young person in the eyes of the law.
According to court records, Dr. Glasgow was residing at Little Dix Hill in a four-storey apartment building owned by Real Frett. On November 1, 2010, the teen burglarized the home.
Some of the items stolen were an Apple Macbook; Nintendo dsi along with two games; two iPhone chargers; one cable TV remote control; and five watches including a fossil, kenneth cole and nike brands.
Fingerprints uplifted from the premises matched those of the teen. The maximum sentence for burglary is 14 years in prison.
