Months after BVI Platinum News published an article about a public eyesore in the heart of Road Town, officials have finally completely cleared the area across from Jayla Place by removing derelict boats and other debris.

The area was first highlighted in an article published by BVI Platinum News on January 30 entitled 'Missed A Spot'. A resident had emailed photos to express their disgust that the area was polluted despite Government's much publicised cleaning campaign.

According to the resident, following the publication of the article, Public Works Department did some works in the area, but they did not finish.

The plot is located in close proximity to several businesses, medical facilities and the House of Assembly office.

Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Mark Vanterpool had explained to BVI Platinum News that the area would be included in the cleaning plans for Road Town.

Nice start and thank you to all who cleaned up the area. This area looks barren and a little weird still, long gigantic building, desolate dirt parking lot, not very enticing...I agree needs landscaping, paths, etc. to make it a nice area. It goes without saying that a LOT of areas of Road Town... more

Mission acomplished with visible results.
Unfortunately the monstrosity of the hideous five story structure remains..
No taste. No grace, this disgrace of a landscape.

I so agree with you. landscaping, pedestrian friendly walk ways between buildings, painting, more trash. How about a PLAN?

And a new one about to go up shortly, check out right across the road which has just been cordened off. Nobody concerned about those and other 6 storey ones built in the middle of town, but the cruise pier park is bad. Sickening.

they should be concerned about all the 6 storey buildings going up. parking will be more of a problem, shadows, wind tunnels, grungy allys, and there is no master plan. everyone for himself. No architecture relating to each other etc. poor planning.

Great,
Please lets not stop there. Littered lots line the road all the way from the Airport to Roadtown.

I think we all have to keep our own areas clean, help with general areas...and stop having to be cleaned up after...throwing cans, bottles, papers, and garbage here and there along the roadside. Pride of our island, our yards, our business areas, our beaches, our home: pride in our home: The... more

Just wait until 10 yrs after the cruise ship dock goes in. Both are equally liable for this kind of trashing around the island. This is the kind of thing ndp should be concentrating on first. Clean up the rest of the place.
