A wide cross-section of themes were displayed through colourful costumes during the August Festival Parade today, Monday, August 6.

The largest groups on the road were Treasures and Anasazi Dancers. Both groups fielded a children's section, moko jumbies and an adult section with a variety of pieces.

Moviene Fahie once again did not disappoint in presenting her cultural perspective. This year, she featured Virgin Islands food and as customary, a donkey was used to help portray her theme.

Reole 'Limping Jack' Frett, another regular feature in the August Parade was back again this year, but instead of focusing on culture, his depiction spoke to crime. A mini coffin, a sign that warned against the use of guns and a photo of murder victim Keri Harrigan were mounted on a cart.

The BVI Heritage Dancers also took part in the parade and they sought to highlight the history of cricket. Some members of the group were engaged in batting and bowling exercises on a flatbed truck.

Pageant queens and participants, along with local businesses, schools and service clubs also took part in the annual parade that stretched along Waterfront Drive to the Road Town Festival Village.

Good parade | Report Abuse
Most of the troupes were very good and entertaining. The only thing was the parade moved so slowly with huge gaps and a lot of stopping, would be more enjoyable if it kept flowing. Some of the antics of some members of Delta Petroleum troupe were way overboard, looked like they were almost having... more

yes, was embarrasing, i didnt see Mr Bevis there but if he was i am sure he didnt want his brand being associated with that. The other dancers were so much better, dont know wht these ladies had to act so vulgar, it didnt make them look good at all.

You people complain about every damn thing. You all stay on the sidelines, don't participate, and criticize those who do. Have any of you who are talking about the dancers how they WUK UP, been to Trinidad, St. Vincent or Eastern Parkway for Labour Day? Well, if you did you will really see... more
