The need for constant maintenance of the Noel Lloyd Action Movement Park has come to the forefront once again and Premier and Tourism Minister, Hon. Dr. Orlando Smith has assured that plans are in the making to improve the park.
The issue was raised last evening, August 20 during the National Democratic Party's (NDP) radio programme where residents complained about the damaged benches in the park and the need for someone to oversee the use of the bathroom facilities.
Premier Smith disclosed, "Actually, we are looking at reinvigorating the park to make it continue to be attractive to both visitors and residents. We have some great ideas for entertainment for there and in other areas in Road Town during the season."
The Premier stated that they must continue to ensure structures are maintained, but noted that they have done a fairly good job with maintaining the park over the years.
"...Be more vigilant in maintaining our physical and other structures in the BVI. I think we have done a fairly good job with the park...We have to look at the benches, plants...To make it continue to look attractive," the Premier stated.
One resident suggested that they erect concrete benches rather than wooden ones, since persons have displayed no pride.
At Large Representative, Hon. Archibald Christian stated that it's good that Government is working to upgrade the park. However, he noted, "People would appreciate that there is certain amount of wear and tear that is associated with a place that is publicly used every day. So from time to time you will have to replace the benches, or sometimes you even have to resort the grass to bring it back up and you may have to close it for a week or two because of what you are doing."
