Kasim Benti will have to fork up $10,000.00 or spend six months behind bars for unlawful possession of 101.2 grams of cannabis.
Benti, who was sentenced yesterday, August 24 by Magistrate Tamia Richards, was also fined an additional $950.00 or forty days in prison for four traffic offences.
The man pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of cannabis, driving without a license, driving an unlicensed vehicle, driving while not covered by a policy of insurance in respect of third party risk and driving while not secured by a seatbelt.
Benti was stopped by Police on May 5 in the area of East End for not wearing a seat belt and during that exercise, Police picked up the scent of marijuana. During a search the drugs were found in several containers in the vehicle.
Checks were later made with the Department of Motor Vehicles and the other traffic charges followed.
"On August 24, Meckriel Pickering was ordered to pay $2,500 or spend six months at Her Majestys Prison for cannabis possession".
