Tropical Storm Isaac spared the Territory much damage when it whipped past the Virgin Islands a few days ago, but there was no escaping Travis 'Chunky' Isaac, who willed the defending A Division champs Set It Off at the opening of the Summer Jam league at the Jeffery Caines Arena on Virgin Gorda last evening, August 25.

Isaac, the 2011 MVP finished with a game high of 23 points and hit timely baskets to seal another escape from defeat after being down by as many as 12 points in the game against archrivals, Without A Doubt. The two teams clashed a few months ago in the A Division Championship series.

Kennedy Bass struck two points from the charity stripe to give the defending champs their first lead of the game, 58-57 with less than 3 minutes left in the game.

Despite giving up the lead, Without A Doubt kept it close, but failed to overhaul the defending champs due to late game turnoffs and missed opportunities from the free throw line.

Phillip Glasgow and Steve Parillon each finished with 17 minutes for Without A Doubt.

In the opening game, defending C Division champs, High Speed defeated Come 2 Defend 62-36 in a repeat of last year's championship series. D'Moi Hodge top scored with 18 points, while Jackhoy Walwyn added 12 points for the defending champs. Stephano Parris ended the game with 11 points for Come 2 Defend.

A brief opening ceremony was held and included speeches from Minister for Education and Culture, Hon. Myron Walyn and Samuel McSheen, the Virgin Gorda Manager for Delta Petroleum, one of the league's sponsors.
