Two employees of a restaurant in Road Town were taken before the Magistrate's Court following a fight at the establishment earlier this year.
Jason Francis pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and Jessica George pleaded not guilty to common assault during their arraignment today, September 5.
An interpreter was present for George, who is from the Dominican Republic.
Prosecutor Sarah Benjamin told the court that it is alleged that on February 16 of this year, George and Francis were working at the Village Cay Marina where they were washing dishes and working side by side. She said Francis picked up some dishes from the sink and while he was doing so, he elbowed George which resulted in her chin being hit.
Benjamin said Francis apologized to George claiming that it was an accident, but the woman punched Francis in the mouth and as a result, Francis began to punch her in the face. The fight was broken up by others.
The court was told that the two employees were taken to the manager's office and while there, George allegedly got upset and attempted to attack Francis.
According to Benjamin, the woman told Police that Francis and her have problems at the workplace and he would always interfere with her; hence, she believes that the elbowing was not an accident as he claimed.
The woman said it is for that reason she reacted the way she did, but Francis maintained that it was an accident.
Both George and Francis will return to court on October 12.
