Newly appointed Acting Principal of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS), Wade Tobin delivered the charge for the new school year, calling on students to respect themselves - girls to be virtuous and boys to desist from smoking.

During the school´s first General Assembly for the 2012/2013 school year held at the Multipurpose Sports Complex today, September 7, Tobin delivered what can be termed as a pep-talk to students urging them to help create a `Culture of Excellence´.

Speaking specifically to the girls, Tobin urged them not to be slack and that in a family everyone needs to be respectful.

"I want to say something to our young ladies. Here me out young ladies. I want to say to you this morning that you need to take pride in yourselves. I want you to be virtuous. Don´t sell out yourself just for a little cell phone or for a little bling bling; you are worth more than that. Don´t sell yourself; a bit here and a bit there. Here a little; there a little and by the time you are finished there is nothing else to give. Tell the young men that you are here to learn your school work. The young men are only looking for something and that something cannot be found in U.P´s Cineplex," Tobin stated.

He also spoke directly to the boys, urging them to desist from smoking by pointing out the effects it has on their sexual health.

"Smoking and doing drugs is not good for you....young men when you smoke and when you do drugs. There is a word called sperm count and when you smoke and you do drugs it lowers your sperm count and when you really ready for action that fella can´t help you...but I am not promoting today. The Bible tells us that there is a time and place for everything," Tobin stated.

He also told the students that their purpose is to get an education, pointing out that the goal of educators is to create critical thinkers that can become productive citizens.

While speaking with a smile, Tobin firmed up when he stopped to verbally scold a male student for not paying attention to his speech.

During the assembly, the recently approved Territory song was sung by three students. Security officials also addressed the assembly. Additionally, students saw firsthand how they should and should not dress.

In the BVI we have a challenge in creating a culture of excellence, As I am reading this article, I smile because it is clear that we have lost the respect for excellence. Why do we not address people with proper titles anymore. The children now influence the media. they have developed a... more

At first look it appeared that there was no inside shirt but figured that could not be possible. You really have to look good to see it. All the best for the school year.

ITs appropriate becasue his speech was dedicated to an audience that only/often wants to hear about arosal and that kind of stuff...so all Tobin did was get on their level ..to bring accross his message... getting the kids to understand the consequences of thier actions...
