The Purcell Methodist Church has once again opened its doors to welcome children from the surrounding community, including its Girls´ and Boys' Brigades to their back-to-school event.
On Saturday, September 1, approximately 65 children came out to the event which consisted of a short ceremony of songs and a motivational talk on the topic of bullying by the Captain, Denese Dawson.
During the presentation, she highlighted what is bullying, why children bully, signs of bullying, helping children overcome bullying and how to prevent bullying.
The session was an interactive one with many of the children indicating that they have learnt sometime about bullying.
After the session, the children enjoyed a social session of meeting everyone there as they snacked on light refreshments, which was organized by Tammi David, Lieutenant of the Girls' Brigade.
At the event, the children also received back-to-school bags filled with supplies. The pre-school and stages 1 and 2 children received happy face bags with pencils, sharpeners, crayons, coloring books, an activity coloring book, penmanship book and an exercise book. The primary school and high school children received tote bags with pencils, pens, rulers, sharpeners, books, highlighters, binder leaves and binders.
The Girls' Brigade is an inter-denominational organization, whereby children of any church can be a part of the group. It is part of a global christian movement with a passionate vision for this generation and the future. The group is committed to seeing lives and communities transformed and enriched as individuals seek, serve and follow Jesus Christ.
The Purcell Girls' and Boys' Brigades meet every Saturday afternoon at the church from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. For more information, contact Mrs. Denese Dawson at 499-0940.
