Several hours following a report published by BVI Platinum News, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has finally released the photograph and details for the inmate who escaped from Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) at Balsum Ghut.
In a press release issued this afternoon just after 3:30 pm, police stated that members of the force are currently seeking an inmate, Eduord Bueno Beltran, 38, who was serving a one year sentence imposed in July for the offence of illegal entry.
Beltran, a native of the Dominican Republic was last seen at 8:00 pm last evening, September 10 and was reported missing just before 8:00 am this morning.
"A part of the perimeter fence was found to have been cut, presumably to facilitate the escape," the release stated.
According to police, detectives have been dispatched to the prison to assist in the search and a watch is being kept at all points of departure. Law enforcement agencies both local and in adjoining territories have also been informed, with a description and photograph of the fugitive being made available.
Beltran is described as 242 pounds, 5 feet 10 inches, with a light complexion.
"Although Beltran is not regarded as a danger to the public, he is unlawfully at large from the prison and should therefore not be approached. The RVIPF wish to remind members of the public that harbouring or giving assistance to a prisoner who is unlawfully at large is a criminal offence that may lead to a prison sentence on conviction," police stated.
Persons with any information should contact the RVIPF non-emergency number 311, Crimestoppers, or the Specialist Investigation Unit on 468 2718. All calls will be treated in the strictest confidence.
