A team of police officers swooped down on Prospect Reef, Tortola this morning to carry out a thorough search of the site and surrounding areas following reports from residents that prison escapee Eduord Bueno Beltran was spotted.
Police stated that the officers were searching for the Dominican Republic national who escaped from lawful custody at Her Majesty's Prison on Tortola earlier this week.
"This latest police action came as a result of information received from the public and follows unconfirmed sightings elsewhere on Tortola. Following a thorough search taking most of the morning, no trace was found of Beltran who, it is believed, may be attempting to leave the Territory," police stated.
Detective Chief Inspector Adams of the RVIPF thanked the public for their help and support so far and asked that the public continue to be vigilant.
According to police, although Beltran is not considered a danger to the public, he is unlawfully at large and therefore should not be approached.
Beltran, 38, is described as 242 pounds, 5 feet 10 inches, with a light complexion.
Beltran was serving a one year sentence imposed in July for the offence of illegal entry. He was last seen at 8:00 pm on September 10 and was reported missing just before 8:00 am the following morning.
"A part of the perimeter fence was found to have been cut, presumably to facilitate the escape," a police press release yesterday stated.
Persons with information regarding the escaped inmate are requested to contact the RVIPF non-emergency number 311, or in complete and guaranteed anonymity, crimestoppers on 800 8477.
