A 47 year-old Great Mountain resident was fined close to $1,000.00 for marijuana, traffic offences and resisting arrest.
Elvis Freeman, a father of one and a construction worker pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced for unlawful possession of cannabis [.5 grams]-$100.00 or three days in prison; driving when not covered by insurance-$150.00 or ten days in prison; and driving a without driver's license-$200.00 or ten days in prison.
He was further fined for driving an unlicensed vehicle-$100.00 or three days in prison; driving without front identification plate-$50.00; driving without rear identification plate-$50.00; and resisting arrest-$200.00 or ten days in prison.
Freeman was also charged for failing to stop at the sound of a siren and unlawful possession of crack cocaine [.5 grams]; however, those charges were dropped.
His lawyer Mary Lou Creque commented that contrary to what was stated by the prosecution that her client failed to stop at the sound of the siren, the police officer drove up to the side of him and he was told to meet the officer down the hill. She said he complied and when got down the hill on his scooter, the officer held on to his hair and pulled him.
She noted that no siren was sounded.
Freeman was nabbed with the drugs at Joe's Hill earlier this year after he was seen by police riding a scooter with a homemade license plate.
