The Virgin Islands' Randy 'Chino' George took his talent to France this year and has immediately impacted the league with a game high scoring performance in the opening game of the season.
George led all scores with 20 points and snatched a game high 12 rebounds as FC Mulhouse Basketball Club picked up a 79-71 victory away from home against Tremblay Athletic Club in Paris last Saturday, September 22.
His teammates, Kevin Walter had 19 points, Matthieu Gitta and Xavier Di-Marzio each had 12 points a piece.
George told BVI Platinum News that he thought the supporting cast came in and played pretty well, but the most important thing was that the team played hard and together as a team, which was all the coaching staff requested.
"I felt really good going into the first game; I thought we were aggressive on both ends of the floor. I thought we executed our game play to perfection and limited their main players. Coach gave me a personal assignment to guard their best post player and I limited him to 1 point for the entire game. I think we got a pretty good team even though the leading scorer (Mario Porter) who lead the league and the team in scoring last season is out for another 3 weeks with a hamstring injury," George stated.
George recalled that he worked both jumpers and inside play as he listened to the Coach who told him to be aggressive from the start. He said he took what the defense offered, but a lot of credit must be given to his teammates as they got him the ball in good positions.
"I think we work well as a team, we believe in each other as we been together practicing for a month and a half now, so we know what each other strengths are which makes things a lot easier. I feel we got to continue getting better on the defensive end of the court because the team was the best defensive team in the league last season so we want to be on that level again. We got a lot of offensive weapons so on any given night any one can score 20 or more points, and once Mario comes back from injury, I think we'll be a force to be reckoned with as that will also give us another scoring option," George noted.
FC Mulhouse Basketball Club´s next game is September 29th at home against Saint Charles Charenton.
"I am just looking forward to having a good season and staying healthy and continue working hard and getting better individually and getting better as a team. Our ultimate goal is to be a top 4 team at the end of the season, make it to the playoffs and win the championship which will get us promoted to National 1.
The Alsace Region based team finished the season in 2nd place in pool D of the National 2 League last year. FC Mulhouse was knocking on the doors of promotion to the French National 1 League, but eventually lost in the playoffs to AS Monaco in the best of 3 series (2-1).
This year the club hopes to make it into the National 1 League.
George is an active member of the BVI national team as well as a member of the reigning BVI Basketball Federation's Senior Division champions Legs.
