A pre-school is currently being constructed for students on Anegada, while additional classrooms are also being built for students on Jost Van Dyke (JVD).
The pre-school is being erected on the grounds of the Claudia Creque Educational Centre and will house a large classroom with male and female restroom facilities to care for students ages three to five years. Presently, 14 pre-school aged students occupy a classroom at the Claudia Creque Educational Centre.
On Jost Van Dyke, additional classroom facilities are under construction upstairs the existing building on that campus. The new space will facilitate two classrooms, storage and an activity area.
Through the Government Information Service (GIS), Hon. Myron Walwyn, Minister for Education and Culture said there is a need for students to have a proper facility to engage in learning activities.
The Education Minister stated that, "Learning starts at infancy and continues throughout life. High quality early interventions have lasting effects on learning and motivation and the care for the youngest students in a safe and supportive environment will only cultivate their interest in learning which will lead to their future success."
Minister Walwyn said the proper foundation must be set from infancy to ensure that the developing brain is exposed to age appropriate surroundings so that the total child can be nourished and cared for.
According to GIS, both principals of the Claudia Creque Education Centre, Mrs. Erma Vanterpool and Mrs. Marva Martin of the Jost Van Dyke school look forward to the completion of the new facilities.
