Eric Freeman was taken before Magistrate Tamia Richards today, October 19, charged with handling stolen goods in relation to two pieces of hand-held tools.
Freeman, 35, an employee with the airport traffic control at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport was granted $45,000.00 bail signed with one surety. He will be pleaded to the charge at his next court appearance.
Freeman is represented by Attorney-at-law Menelik Miller of Farara Kerins law firm.
Prosecutor Sarah Benjamin told the court that it is alleged that on August 24 and 25, 2012, police received two pieces of hand-held tools in relation to the case.
She said it is alleged that an agreement between the complainant and Freeman was made for Freeman to sell the complainant the items during the first two weeks of August. However, on August 24 the complainant became suspicious of Freeman following a conversation and he made a report to the police station.
An investigation was launched and a search warrant was executed at Freeman's home.
Benjamin said during a cautioned interview with police at the station, Freeman said that he had received the tools from a friend in Florida, who visited the BVI during the 2012 festival season. He said the individual gave him the tools to sell.
However, Freeman later requested another interview with police, stating that he did not speak the truth in the first interview.
During the second interview, it is alleged that he told police that he received the tools from an ex-employee of Tool Town in the Baughers Bay area.
Freeman will return to court on November 5.
