Former Minister for Education and Culture with responsibility for Sports, Mr. Lloyd Black is one of four persons seeking election for a contested post on the British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee (BVIOC).
The BVI Olympic Committee will hold its general assembly and elections at its offices on Wednesday, November 7 at 5:30 pm.
At the close of nominations for positions on the executive committee on October 17, there were two posts being the only contested positions - that of the Secretary General and the Treasurer. All other posts have no challengers.
At the end of the nominations period, the posts with no challengers are those of President, Ephraim Penn; 1st Vice President, Neville "Sheep" Smith; and 2nd Vice President, Roy Barry. The posts being contested are Secretary General, Dean "The Sportsman" Greenaway and Lloyd Black; and Treasurer, Mark Chapman and Andy Bickerton. Sabina Clement has been nominated for Athletes Representative.
The new executive committee will serve for the 2012-2016 quadrennial.
The BVICO is still to publicly announce plans for the upcoming general assembly meeting and elections. There are growing concerns from the Athletics Association that there is a plan to remove athletics representatives from the BVIOC.
Recently reelected President of the BVI Athletics Association, Dean Greenaway is the only serving member from the BVIAA seeking elections. However, Penn, the current BVIOC President is a former President of the then BVI Amateur Athletics Association.
