Premier and Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. D. Orlando Smith led a delegation of Government officials and Members of the House Assembly to the opening session of the United States Virgin Islands 30th Legislature yesterday, January 14.

Some 15 senators took the oath of office in Emancipation Garden administered by V.I. Supreme Court Chief Justice Rhys S. Hodge.

The BVI Delegation included Hon. Ronnie W. Skelton, Minister for Health and Social Development; Hon. Archibald Christian, Territorial At-Large Representative; Hon. Marlon Penn, Eighth District Representative; Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines, Sixth District Representative and Hon. Ingrid Moses-Scatliffe, Speaker of the House of Assembly.

The BVI and USVI has close ties. Several elected senators sworn in yesterday have roots in the BVI, including Mr. Clifford Graham who was elected from the St. Thomas District and received the highest number of votes in the senate race.

Others with BVI roots are Myron Jackson and Shawn Michael-Malone; and from the St. Croix District, Diane Capehart and Alicia 'Chucky' Hansen.
