The BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) and a number of industry partners will travel to Bahamas to meet with a vast network of hospitality and tourism industry officials at the Caribbean Travel Marketplace trade show being held from 20-22 January.

According to the BVITB, their attendance comes ten days after the Premier's announcement of a new Director of Tourism and his Ministry's aim to increase the development and marketing of the British Virgin Islands.

The Board outlined that CHA Marketplace is a business-to-business marketing event whereby hotels, tourist boards and transportation companies assemble to network, negotiate and conduct business with buyers from around the world.

"The BVI Tourist Board's itinerary includes a full slate of one-on-one appointments with buyers as well as other activities over the course of two days. Additionally, the Board will launch a variety of BVI summer specials to provide attendees with an early notice of discounted properties, charters and activities for the upcoming summer season," the Board noted in a release.

"As one of the leading destinations in the Caribbean, we must continue to push the British Virgin Islands´ diverse tourism product to the multiple generations of travellers in search of a unique tourism experience," said Sharon Flax-Mars, Director of Tourism at the BVI Tourist Board.

"Caribbean Travel Marketplace is one of many platforms upon which we can present our destination to those charged with driving attention, and visitors to our shores."

The BVITB delegation includes Chairman, Russell Harrigan; Director, Sharon Flax-Mars; Deputy Director, Malcia Smith-Hamilton. Other industry partners travelling to this event are representatives of Biras Creek Resort, Bitter End Yacht Club, Oil Nut Bay, Peter Island Resort & Spa, and Rosewood Little Dix Bay.

A number of media and marketing companies, advertising agencies, website development and booking engines, distribution systems, publishing companies, PR agencies, and hotel franchises are also scheduled to attend.

The BVITB were only a few weeks ago reporting the massive operating costs of this department. Hopefully the cost of this trip will be made public and transparent. There are many other ways to promote the BVI without expensive trips abroad. Not a good start.

Oh shut up for godsake! A trip to market the Territory and you want them to publish the cost of travel? You people are too damn simple man. What we should be looking for is results from the trip not the cost of damn airfare and hotel. Schups.
