Hertz Retail Agent Charged for Stealing Over $14K

A woman was taken before Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens on Wednesday in the Virgin Gorda court charged with over 100 counts of theft and false accounting after she allegedly stole in excess of $14,000.00 from Hertz Car Rental.

Therese Blyden, 35, who was not allowed to plead to the indictable offences, was represented by Stephen Daniels and she was granted $40,000.00 bail signed with surety.

According to the allegations, Blyden who worked at the company as a Retail Agent stole the monies between June and December 2008 and then between March 2009 and August 2009.

Prosecution stated that Blyden misappropriated monies from CCT and Lime top up system during her time on the job. Hertz Car Rental is an agent for those two cellular companies.

The court heard that for example, when customers pay for a $20.00 top up, the accused would only enter half of that payment into the account, and would take the remainder.

Also, in some cases she would steal monies that were paid for car rentals. According to the Crown, Blyden would go to other sales personnel and collect the payments for car rentals, but she would not turn in the monies.

Prosecution was represented by Senior Crown Counsel Candace Raphael-Dejonge.

Blyden will return to court on the 8th January, 2010 when the matter is set for report.

Confucius, who tell you that they teach those sermons in church nowadays? When last you hear a preacher talk about the 10 Commandments? Is pure "prosperity gospel" in church now, and everyone seeking their prosperity, by hook or by crookedness.

girl what were you thinking when you did what you did? you were better off getting a part time job if you needed extra cash.it don't look good when a woman is caught with her hands in the cookie jar.yeah and it looks like the british virgin islands have a problem with women stealing.every time you turn around a woman is caught stealing from her job.

What the hell is going on with these ppl and they are women now wah she theif all dat money 4 now, to pay her bills and feed her kids too. Lol i feel for poor valerie, i take my hat off to her, but this ain't a good look for bvislanders and/or residents.

If i was valerie i would show no mercy, cuz this thing getting out of hand right about now, too much ppl living above their means, too impress who???? this is crap man 4 real, nothing ain't wrong with being broke, if hertz ain't paying enough, moonlight 4 God sakes, if not jobs are available, get creative with it, sell avon, mary cay, costume jewelry something, come on, it still look better than stealing, gosh man.

Good Lord! What makes all these people think they can get something for nothing and take from the very hand that feeds them. What a sad state of affairs we have here in our little community. Seems people need to pay better attention to the sermons they listen to when they go to church!

things is rough every where but people have to learn that they have to stop trying to live above their means. i own my own business and my employees deal with hundreds and thousands of dollars on a daily basics i don't have a problem with stealing because anyone who works at my business have to go through an intense background check and their fingerprints must be on file.also there is cameras install above each employee work station any companies or business that is dealing with monies should always check their employees back ground.you can't just hire a person based on word of mouth.

I am in depts, but i am not going to steal to cause an embrasment on my self or family. if you see that things are rough try to ask some one to assist in helping you out because too have your name label as a thief is not a good thing.

When the courts sentence them everybody complainting that it is too harsh but if the penalties don't get stiffer and stiffer then the crime will continue to be an issue.

Things are not that bad that people need to steal. STOP IT

Man you see people and its another story with them. Am so shocked about this article for someone I know. After all that you hear in the news you would think that some people will learn. But the problem with most of them is that the want to live a particular lifestyle above all got to keep the man (sometimes belonging to someone else). For those out there contemplating stealing in particular from a company bear in mind that no mattter how carefree the owner/boss may seem they will realise and make an example of you. I hope my girl know how to wriggle her way out of this one.

Another thief AGAIN.....I wonder if she aint see all the thieves going to Balsam Ghut ? Boy this is a real epidemic in our land....it's like people think stealing going out of style soon and they need to do it before it goes....well me boy...things rough out here but this is just not the answer.
