(PLTM) - Detectives of the Criminal Investigations Department today, February 23, laid charges against two males in separate incidents; one for attempted murder and the other for robbery.

Police stated that Akeem Headley of Thread Falls was charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of a firearm to endanger life, in relation to a November incident where a man received a gunshot wound to the leg outside a bar in Huntums Ghut.

Kawa Cornwall of Havers Estate was charged with robbery and being armed with an offensive weapon, in an incident which took place just over a week ago, where the victim was struck in the face and money and personal items were taken.

A firearm was used in both cases.

Commissioner of Police, Michael Matthews reiterated the commitment of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force to see that persons who choose to carry and use firearms be brought to bear grave consequences.

“As I have said, it is just a matter of time. Predators within our community who carry firearms and further assault others will be eventually identified and charged. In one day, we arrested two individuals in separate firearm-related incidents," he said.

He added, "One arrest we were able to make fairly quickly with the help of the public and the other took time because that help was not forthcoming."

The Commissioner commended his Detectives for their diligence in these matters.
