(PLTM) - Police caught two men with unlicensed firearms in separate incidents during the past week.

Dion Thomas, 39, of Hannahs Estate was remanded to prison on Thursday, August 9 after police found a a loaded unlicensed firearm on his person during a stop and search exercise earlier this week.

He was charged with carrying a firearm without a license and two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition.

Similarly, a search of Jamori Hart, 22, of Parham Town resulted in him being charged with keeping an unlicenced firearm in a separate incident.

Following their appearance at Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, Thomas and Hart were remanded to HM Prison.

In noting the successful apprehension of these individuals, Acting Commissioner of Police, Alwin James highlighted the continuous need for community and police to collaborate in bringing to justice those who carry firearms and remove firearms from the streets.

“Our festival celebrations could have been disrupted and very unsettling had any of these confiscated weapons been discharged, injuring or killing someone," James noted.

He added, "We are very happy with the outcome, but we cannot overemphasize the need for community to work with police in bringing persons carrying firearms to justice. All hands must be on deck."
