(PLTM) - Over the weekend, officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force in separate incidents confiscated an illegal firearm with accompanying ammunition, crack cocaine and an illegal bike.

According to police, in a search of a vehicle yesterday afternoon, September 22, officers of the Armed Response Unit and Beat and Patrol Unit confiscated a Smith and Wessen 9mm handgun along with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The lone occupant, Halim Scatliffe, 35, of Huntums Ghut was taken into custody and later charged with carrying unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

During the same afternoon, a quantity of crack cocaine and an illegal motorbike were also recovered. Charges are pending in relation to the both seizures.

Exactly one week earlier, the Armed Response Unit uncovered a firearm on the premises of Jhon Castillo, a native of the Dominican Republic. He was later arrested for unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Commissioner of Police, Michael Matthews commended the general good work and the most recent successes of the newly trained Armed Response Unit in many of these firearm recoveries, as well as illegal drugs and the illegal motorbike.

“I am very proud of this team and the energy these officers put into their work. We have seen the benefits of additional training in confiscating firearms and arresting those that carry them,” the Commissioner stated.
