(PLTM) - The new $6.5M Nurse Iris O’Neal Medical Centre (mini-hospital) on Virgin Gorda (VG) is scheduled to be opened in December, but funding is needed to outfit the centre.

Government on Wednesday, October 17, disclosed that a pledge programme will be launched on Virgin Gorda to seek funding to assist with outfitting the medical centre, upon the completion of construction.

Chief Executive Officer of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), Mrs. Paula Chester-Cumberbatch said that the launch will be held on Friday, October 26 with an opening ceremony and health fair on Virgin Gorda, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Residents will receive free health checks and lifesaving health information. Scheduled tours of the medical centre will also be organised and persons will get an opportunity to make a donation to the pledge programme.

According to the Authority, the medical centre will boast a laboratory, imaging, pharmacy, urgent medical services and expanded clinic areas.

“As we near the completion of construction, we are seeking the community’s support to offset the cost to outfit the building with the necessary equipment and supplies required to provide optimum healthcare for the residents and visitors of Virgin Gorda and neighboring islands,” Mrs. Chester-Cumberbatch added.

All donations will be given at a gift level and displayed on the new medical centre’s donor wall. Donors will also receive advertisement space in the June 2019 edition of the Pulse Magazine, in addition to having their name or the name of the organisation or church mentioned in press releases and audio and video productions.

Residents on Virgin Gorda are encouraged to attend the opening ceremony and health fair and to also pledge their support to improve the healthcare in the BVI.

The new $100M Peebles Hospital also has a pledge programme and several donations were made to allow for its outfitting.
