(PLTM) - The recent accusations by former member of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Hon. Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull, that double standards were exercised in the party, leading to division, has been dubbed as “foolishness” by the NDP’s Chairman, Hon. Myron Walwyn.

Hon. Turnbull, who will be seeking re-election in District Two under the Ronnie Skelton-led Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM), accused the NDP of practicing blatant double standards. He said he faced reprimands for voicing concerns in the interest of the public, while Hon. Walwyn did not face any stiff penalties for publicizing the Auditor General’s Special Report into the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) wall, in breach of protocols.

“On one hand, we are chastised for making a statement in the best interest of the country, and on the other hand…other persons, they don’t even get even a slap on the wrist, it’s business as usual…Other members do and say as they please,” Turnbull had said.

He also lamented the fact that Hon. Walwyn retained his Ministerial position despite this breach, also saying that the NDP has lost its core values and principles.

Asked to respond to these accusations, the NDP Chairman stated, “I will leave all the personal attacks and all the ‘he say, she say’. All that foolishness to me does not enrich life for the people. I will leave that up to other people.”

Speaking to BVI Platinum News, Hon. Walwyn did not address Turnbull’s utterances in regard to the publicising of the Audit Report, but said, “I am not going to get myself caught up in what could end up being a childish backward and forward conversation. I don’t think that’s a good use of my time.”

Meanwhile, during a press conference on Tuesday, December 10, addressing the statements by both Hon. Ronnie Skelton and Hon. Turnbull that the NDP has lost its core values and principles, Hon. Walwyn fired back, saying, “I don’t share those views…What somebody lost was an election.”
