(PLTM) - “It’s a lie,” an unrepresented Rohan Williams shouted as Crown Counsel Nick Saunders read the allegations against him in relation to the Sunday, May 26 murder of Lenia Green, that took place at Georges Northside.
Williams appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today, May 28 to answer the charge of murder, but was not required to plead. He was questioned about his legal representation and told Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin that he could not afford a lawyer.
The Crown Counsel in outlining the allegations, told the court that on May 26, gunshots and the scream of a woman were heard in the area of Georges Northside at around 8:15 pm. He said that at around 8:45 pm, a witness saw a blue SUV leaving the area.
Moments later, another witness allegedly saw Green lying in a pool of blood. It was reported that Green told the witness what had happened and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The Crown Counsel explained to the court that the defendant was known to Green, having worked on the home of her sister-in-law and became a friend of the family. In fact, Crown Counsel Saunders informed the court that Green obtained a restraining order against the defendant in January this year.
As part of the investigations, it was stated that the police interviewed the girlfriend and daughter of the defendant, and were told that on the night in question, Williams picked them up at the laundry sometime between 8:45 and 9:00 pm, driving the blue SUV he was driving before. His girlfriend noted that he had changed his clothes and his daughter noted that his hair was wet.
The Crown Counsel said that the police searched the home of the defendant and found clothes soaking in the bathtub.
It was explained that Williams told officers that he was home alone. The court also heard that Williams refused to give a sample of his DNA.
Additionally, Saunders told the court that there are further lines of investigations being looked at and asked for a month to pursue these lines.
It was also mentioned that the matter would be dealt with via paper committal.
Williams was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison and will return to court on July 24.
