Before conferring the graduates with their certificates and degrees, Acting President of HLSCC, Judith Vanterpool disclosed that there were 12 students from the graduating batch that reside on Virgin Gorda.

Twenty-four certificates and 84 associate degrees were awarded. Eleven students graduated with multiple certifications and 18 of them graduated with various honours.

She said, “I wish to commend you on your hard work. You deserve every moment of praise you get today because you have completed the task…But ask yourself what legacy are you leaving behind.”

Premier Hon. Andrew Fahie commended the students on staying the course to ensure that they completed their studies despite the challenges that were caused by two hurricanes that devastated the island in 2017.

“You remained laser-focused, you stayed on course during a time when everyone’s life in the BVI was totally shaken and disrupted by the impacts of two devastating hurricanes,” he remarked.

The Keynote Speaker was Deputy Governor David Archer, who spoke of the importance of community in helping to guide and nourish the talents and gifts of young people. He also urged the graduates to make full use of the opportunities available to them through their education.
