(PLTM) - BVI track star, Kyron McMaster said that now that he has finished his 2019 sports season, he is about to rest a bit and commence focus on the 2020 Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo.

The BVI star athlete made the comment in an interview with the BVI Olympics Association shortly after coming fourth in the final of the men’s 400-metre hurdles that took place yesterday, September 30 at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

McMaster clocked a seasons best time of 48.10 seconds in the World Championship, and in his evaluation of the race the athlete said, “The race was pretty good; I wish I got the bronze, silver or even the gold.”

In explaining his mindset as he competed, Kyron said that he tried but just couldn’t hold on to the top spots.

“Running on lane two on such a hard field like that, coming towards the end just couldn’t hold on to something that we thought was secured in the bag. After coming off of hurdle eight, going to hurdle nine; after hurdle ten I tried to hold on as much as possible, but I just couldn’t hold it for much longer,” he explained.

While on the track, the BVI star said that he still purposed to achieve something from the race, if not a medal, then at least time.

“For me it wasn’t a matter of settling for or whatever, my aim was just to run through the last phase of the race as hard as possible – not only for medal wise, but time wise; just to secure something positive in the air, win lose or draw.”

In July, McMaster had to sit out the PANAM games because of injuries. He was able to compete in the World Championships and many pondered if the injuries were a factor in his performance on Monday. However, Kyron discarded the concern by stating that he would not attribute the injuries to his performance.

“I wouldn’t say that it affected me, but maybe if it didn’t happen things could have gone differently, but we blocked that out immediately. We didn’t look at that as something that was in the pathway of securing a medal, we just used it as – we went the next round, that’s the only thing that matters at that point. It don’t matter how we get to the next round. It's just to execute the final as smooth as possible,” he said.

As it relates to what is next for the BVI sports star, Kyron said, “Basically the season is done, enjoy off season and basically go back into the lab, focusing prep for Olympics next year.”

During the interview with Kyron, BVI Athletics Association President, Steve Augustine disclosed that following the race, BVI officials went to the technical area and reviewed footage of the race.

“We went to the TIC room and we reviewed the film just to make sure that all was as they said.”

The BVI official further mentioned that they observed that it was the last meter of the race where Kyron went from third to fourth.
