(PLTM) - City Manager Mrs. Janice Brathwaite-Edwards is pleased that the 23rd staging of the annual Christmas In The City had good reviews on the new location and the overall event.

Last weekend’s event was held for the first time on Shore Way Drive to usher in the Christmas spirit and provide an opportunity for entrepreneurs to sell their products.

In an interview with BVI Platinum News on Monday, December 6, Mrs. Edwards said “We got raving reviews for the location, similar when we moved to DeCastro Street at first.”

She continued: “But this location, based on a number of issues in the city happens to be probably one of the better locations for us based on the fact that it didn’t really obstruct traffic as such. There were no incidences, safety is one of our biggest concerns.”

In the meantime, the City Manager said that it is very likely that the event will “remain in that location for a few more years.”

She said the nearby businesses were also pleased with the event's location as it also drew the crowd to them.

“I think Christmas In The City this year was housed in a location for business that is considered the city’s centre and that made it a lot more successful.”

She also informed that the number of vendors taking part in the event increased on Saturday to over 40, from Friday's count of 35.

“We could have almost gotten 67 if we wanted, but I think we were leaning on the side of caution this year. I know that the vendors claimed that they didn’t do too badly,” she added.

She stated that she was also pleased to see the massive turnout of young people at the event,” it was a good turn out.”

She said a meeting will be held later this week to discuss areas of improvement.
