(PLTM) - The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has confirmed the sudden death of a 31-year-old male of Vanterpool Estate which was reported about 4 pm on Sunday, January 18.
Co-workers identified the man as Delroy Gordon, a former Special Olympics sailor and beloved staff of Alcedo Hodge Building Development Ltd in Fish Bay.
Despite being differently able, Gordon was landed a job at the building development company shortly after the 2017 hurricanes.
“After the hurricanes, he joined the business and he was well-loved by everyone here in Fish Bay,” co-worker Howard Osbourne told BVI Platinum News.
He added, “He thought me how to communicate with him. He was deaf, but you would have never known because he found ways to communicate. We will certainly miss him.”
Osbourne said that Gordon’s passing is puzzling as he was known to be ill. He pointed out also that Gordon last showed up for work in December, 2021.
Police are still conducting investigations into Gordon’s death, a police spokesperson stated.
“Investigations so far indicate there is nothing suspicious in this death,” the police spokesperson stated.
Gordon, the winner of many sailing events including a gold medal in Athens as part of the Special Olympics BVI Sailing Team in 2011, has been deaf since birth.
He attended Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre during his primary schooling, before moving on to the secondary - BVI Technical and Vocational Institute.
