Seventy-six persons have been officially registered as British citizens following a ceremony held at Government House on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

The milestone event marked a significant moment for the new citizens, who received congratulatory remarks from Acting Governor of the Virgin Islands Mr. David D. Archer Jr. and Registrar General Mrs. Tashi O’Flaherty-Maduro.

In his address, Mr. Archer urged the newly registered citizens not to take the achievement lightly, stressing that citizenship carries both pride and responsibility. He said they now represent a larger part of the world and should take that responsibility seriously.

The Acting Governor also reflected on the shared values of the community, including respect and concern for others, especially those who may feel different or less fortunate.

Mrs. O’Flaherty-Maduro described the occasion as a significant milestone for those preparing to take the Oath of Allegiance and the Pledge of Loyalty. She said the moment reflects commitment, belonging, and the beginning of a new chapter for each recipient.

She noted that becoming a British citizen is not simply the completion of an administrative process, but a deeper connection to the values, responsibilities, and privileges that come with citizenship. Those values, she said, include respect, fairness, justice, and service to the community.

The Registrar General also acknowledged that many of the individuals had reached this point through patience, perseverance, and dedication. She added that citizenship carries an obligation to contribute positively to society, respect the rule of law, and support the building of safe, vibrant, and inclusive communities.

Officials said the ceremony served as both a celebration and a commitment, formally welcoming the 76 individuals into the British family while recognising the role they will play in its continued growth and success.
