(PLTM) - Residents are asked to do their part and be prepared this hurricane season.
Government is encouraging persons to remove all derelict vehicles and heavy equipment not in use from roadways; clear waterways of derelict boats; and clear all debris and loose garbage on property.
They are also being asked to refrain from throwing bulky garbage in ghuts and drains.
“These items can be swept away during natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods, and cause blockage of free flowing water to ghuts, drains or off the roadway that may result in flooding,” government stated.
Following the passage of the last storms, some residents returned to indiscriminately dumping bulk waste outside of public bins.
Authorities were forced to remind the public of the Litter Abatement Act, which states that it is illegal to dump bulky items, including beds, refrigerators and other furniture and construction materials in or near residential dumpsters.
