(PLTM) - The 2003 money laundering allegations against Hon. Andrew Fahie and his wife resurfaced on Thursday, August 9 with a string of whatsApp messages detailing the allegations.

This prompted the Opposition Leader and First District Representative to issue a response, calling the move a desperate attempt to hijack the next election using outdated, unproven, and unsubstantiated allegations against him and his family.

"Fifteen long years, and the best and only shot they can take at me is an allegation, which resulted in nothing," he said via social media.

Hon. Fahie added, "their aim is not to destroy Andrew Alturo Fahie; their aim and purpose is to destroy my entire family, my wife, my mother, my children and try to undermine the massive progress that our Virgin Islands Party has made. The question is "why now?"

*DESPERATE PEOPLE DO DESPERATE THINGS*

Today, I was in the middle of considering different ways how we as a people can continue working on our recovery efforts, bearing in mind we are in another hurricane season. Then I received what can only be summed up as a vicious and divisive WhatsApp message. From the many calls I have received, I have no doubt that many of you would have received copies of this message. Let's call this what it really is: a desperate attempt by destructive individuals to hijack the next election using outdated, unproven, and unsubstantiated allegations against me and my family.

For those who may not know, this is old news, which has been making the rounds every election since 2003. Fifteen long years, and the best and only shot they can take at me is an allegation, which resulted in nothing. Their aim is not to destroy Andrew Alturo Fahie; their aim and purpose is to destroy my entire family, my wife, my mother, my children and try to undermine the massive progress that our Virgin Islands Party has made. The question is "why now?"

It is commonly known that “desperate people do desperate things,” and this is no exception! In fact, this appears to be their new blueprint. Destroy British Virgin Islanders who are brave and strong enough to speak out against their abuse of power, their disrespect for people, their lack of appreciation for morality and the people's fundamental belief in good governance. Their lack of respect for accountability and our Territory's human resources reveals itself in everything they say and do. This recent act is no exception.

For years I have repeatedly called for greater transparency and accountability; the elimination of nepotism and conflict of interest; and the full disclosure of contracts, including those illegally awarded . I knew that my family and I would become victims of these cowardly acts by people who do not have these Virgin Islands at heart.

The truth is I welcome the opportunity to finally begin the process of fully disclosing the originators of this witch-hunt that has caused me and my family countless hours of grief and has stained my name.

Of this I can assure you my people: that I, Andrew Alturo Fahie, remain unbroken, unshaken and unrelenting. I remain focused on ensuring that the dreams and aspirations of all who call the BVI home are realised. It is a fitting time to inform everyone that residents of glass houses must avoid the urge of throwing stones.
