(PLTM) - A fight over a box of food in 2014 has one man before the court, four years later.

Roland Simon is currently on trial before Magistrate Shawn Innocent for assaulting an officer during the Emancipation Festival in 2014.

When his trial commenced on Wednesday, the 32 year-old truck driver of East End told the Court that at about 1:00am on July 25, 2014, he was with three friends at the Festival Grounds. His friends, identified as ‘Hot man’, ‘Pimp Head’, and ‘Duck’, were preparing to leave after imbibing in alcohol.

He related that ‘Pimp Head’ bought a box of chicken for $10, and on their way out of the compound, a man hit it out of his hand. After the man refused to compensate his friend for his food, and offered only $3, he said a fight ensued.

He claimed that upon seeing Police Officers talking to ‘Pimp Head’, he approached him and cautioned him to calm down, but was soon shot from behind with a tazer.

He said he fell to the ground, and later had to be taken to the hospital to have the probe removed from his back, where it had been lodged.

Simon denied shoving an officer away from ‘Pimp Head.’

‘Pimp Head’, whose name was later given as Rupert Herbert, was later called to the witness stand, and corroborated Simon’s story.

Simon will return to Court on Friday for the conclusion of his trial.
