(PLTM) - Pastor of the Agapé Total Life Center (ATLC) and five community stalwarts were honoured for their outstanding work at the end of the church's year-long 30th anniversary celebration.

During the Gala Banquet held on Saturday, 24th November at the Mariner Inn Restaurant, Dr. C. Lucia Woods was honoured as the pastor and visionary leader for the past 30 years; Brent Hoyte – Musical Ambassador; Pastor Sylvia Rhymer – Pastor and Mentor; Milton McLean – Youth Mentor; and Linton Wheatley – BVI Day of Prayer Coordinator.

According to the church, surrounded by family members, church members and well-wishers, each honouree expressed their thanks and appreciation to the church for recognising their efforts. Chair of the Church’s Anniversary Committee, Ms. Sandra Herbert said it was important to recognise persons throughout the community who have made contributions to the church’s shared vision through their work, community service and commitment to improving the lives of residents in the Territory.

Ms. Herbert said, “We felt it was essential to take a step back and really celebrate these individuals. We recognise their work in our shared vision of improving lives in the Territory, and we wanted to thank them and also encourage them for the hard work they do.”

The evening included musical entertainment from Dwight Hutchinson and True Definition Of Music (TDOM), a charge from Pastor Calvin Mills of the Church of God (Holiness) and a toast from Second District Representative, Hon. Melvin “Mitch” Turnbull.

Throughout 2018, the church has had various events and activities to mark 30 years of spiritually backed service to the community. Activities included an anniversary service in January to begin the year-long celebration, fun family outings, community outreach activities including Church on the Beach (Brewer’s Bay), as well as a Sankey Sunday.

Established on January 1, 1988, the vision of Agapé Total Life Center is to minister to the total man—spirit, soul and body through music, education, strengthening family relationships, missionary and evangelistic outreaches and the provision of spiritually based early childhood education.

The church has grown from a few members meeting for Bible Study at the Treasure Isle Conference Room, to occupying a space at the Todman Building in Road Town, to its permanent home, a three-story building at Anderson Estate. As its membership grew, so too did community and educational programmes of the Agapé Total Life Centre.

In September 1999, the church opened the doors to the Agapé Total Life Academy, a pre-school to give families seeking a spiritually backed education plan for their children, an alternative. Since then, new grades have been added to the Academy up to Grade 6.

The school has had many successes, including an annual passing of all of its students sitting the former Primary Five exams. The school has also won various locally organised competitions including the Spelling Bee and General Knowledge.
