(PLTM) - Premier and Minister for Finance Hon. Andrew Fahie has joined some of his colleagues and residents of the Territory in taking his first shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine, despite being later than he initially promised.

Premier was photographed at the Nurse Theresa Smith Blyden Clinic in Capoon’s Bay earlier today, February 24, with the needle in his arm along with Deputy Speaker Hon. Neville Smith.

“Today was a joyful occasion to join persons from the First District as together we were vaccinated at the Nurse Theresa Smith Blyden Clinic in Capoon’s Bay,” he later posted on his Facebook page.

He added: “Remember don’t procrastinate, but with BVI Love vaccinate.”

During the live rollout of the vaccine on February 11, Premier Fahie said he was allowing Governor John Rankin and Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Carvin Malone and the rest of the frontline persons to go ahead and take their first shot of the vaccine before he did.

“I have made a decision to allow our frontline, as many as possible, especially in the health care section, to get ahead, and next week I will be taking the vaccine. It’s as simple as that, so let’s not make a mountain out of a mole. It’s going to happen,” he said.

Working with his timeline, he was expected to take the vaccine sometime last week and no reason was provided publicly for the delay.

In the meantime, as of February 23, some 2082 persons have received their first dose of the vaccine. Initially, there were a total of 1,500 persons registered, the government informed via an information flier.
