(PLTM) - Premier and Minister for Finance Hon. Andrew Fahie has promised that solutions to the ongoing hike in port fees is currently being discussed.

"Your Government has and will always be about solutions in the best interest of the people of the Virgin Islands, and it will not change especially dealing with this BVIPA fees issue," Premier Fahie said yesterday while wishing residents an enjoyable Easter holiday.

He continued: "While there are some harsh realities that must be dealt with, we also recognize that the voice of the people must be heard and respected. In that vein, please be advised that plenty of consultation with many stakeholders and the Government of the Virgin Islands are ongoing behind the scenes. As a result, a more amicable way forward with the Port fees will be announced next week so stay tune."

He then thanked residents for expressing genuine concerns on the matter.

"Your concerns are our concerns. We're in this TOGETHER with BVILOVE," he added.

The BVI Port Authority imposed an increase in fees after it was approved by Premier Fahie.

Since then, it has received backlash from several quarters mainly because of the timing, with the ongoing hardships being faced by all during this ongoing health crisis caused by COVID-19
