(PLTM) - The government has earmarked $6M to pay increments to public servants.

In a post Cabinet report issued this afternoon September 22, it was noted that the payment of the 2018 increments for the 2017 work year is estimated at $6M of which $4M is expected to be disbursed in 2021, inclusive of social contributions.

It went on to explain that the balance of approximately $2M will be paid in 2022 following the Department of Human Resources’ review and assessment of those officers with payroll anomalies for the 2017 work year.

The monies are to be approved by the House of Assembly through a Supplementary Appropriation Provision (SAP), which is being piloted by Premier and Finance Minister Hon. Andre Fahie. The SAP of some $28.9M which will cover other major areas as well, was taken to the HoA today and members are still in committee stage examining the Motion.

Premier Fahie was ushered into office in February 2019 after outlining a string of campaign promises, including plans to ensure that public servants received their increments which had been due for several years.

Last month, Hon. Fahie said his government has approved more public service increments to be paid by December.

The Premier indicated that his opponents are riling up the public servants and trying to make them turn against the government.

“We are the ones who approved the monies to get ahead with the job reclassification and the review of salary. Those who you have out there now singing to them that they love them so; they were there for years and didn’t make sure they increased their salary or have a salary revision or job classification,” the Premier stated.

He added, “Now they telling them that they love them; now they telling them squeeze the government because they are squandering your money they could give you a raise. And telling them all manner of things that are not factual.”

Upon taking office in February 2019, the Fahie-led administration approved the 2016 increments for public officers.
