(PLTM) - Health Minister Hon. Carvin Malone says the BVI must put up a fight against the ongoing UK-backed Commission of Inquiry (CoI).

He is contending that the CoI is suggesting that governance-related laws have been misinterpreted by government for decades.

“Here comes a 71-year review of governance in the Virgin Islands, we have to give account for all of the laws that we have passed…all of the leaders that have come and then they are going to come and tell you that what our Attorney Generals interpreted for over at least from (19) 67 to now, it doesn’t matter, it was wrong,” he said.

Hon. Malone was speaking in the House of Assembly last evening September 22, “we have to fight this, we have to fight because we have to bring every Attorney General that was, wake them up, bring them here and ask how ‘could you be so wrong with this interpretation’.”

He said if they are going to use this to disrupt all of what the BVI is doing, it cannot go without mention, “it cannot go without being challenged and challenged strongly. Because I contend that we have the most brilliant attorney general.”

The Health Minister said that the CoI intends to do nothing else other than to fulfil their particular agenda, “they have theirs, we have ours. We have to defend the people of the Virgin Islands, defend leadership over the years.”

The CoI was issued on 19 January 2021 to look into whether corruption, abuse of office or other serious dishonesty may have taken place amongst public, elected and statutory officials in recent years; and to make appropriate recommendations as to governance and the operation of the law enforcement and justice systems in the BVI.
