(PLTM) - Former National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate, Mrs. Sandy Harrigan-Underhill has taken up a new post at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC).
A social media post from the educational institution on Tuesday, January 11, said the former Principal of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) has been appointed as the first Director of the HLSCC Institute of Education.
The Institute of Education has been established to be the centre of the facilitation of sustained teaching excellence in the territory.
It will provide educators with support in an inclusive training environment that facilitates training and professional development that embraces best practice principles, the HLSCC stated.
President of the HLSCC, Dr. Richard Georges commented on her appointment, stating that he is pleased that she will be taking up that post.
“I’m delighted to welcome Mrs. Harrigan-Underhill to HLSCC. She is an outstanding choice as the first Director of our new Institute of Education, bringing a wealth of experience from leadership roles at the territory’s largest secondary school, and experience in the sector both locally and internationally,” he said.
The social media post further said that Harrigan-Underhill brings to the table over 27 years of experience in education and 10 years in progressive leadership positions.
It said she has experience with Business Change Management Consulting to include policy implementation, human capital and systems development.
She served as the Principal of the ESHS from 2014 to 2019 when she stepped down from that post to run for political office.
