(PLTM) - Former Deputy Premier and District Seven Representative, Dr. Kedrick Pickering has endorsed Independent candidate Perline Scatliffe-Leonard for the next Representative for the Seventh District.

"For those of you who have wondered for instance why I didn’t consider running in the district again, it's because it's time for somebody like Perline. Somebody who have new energy, new zest, new zeal and new commitment to our community," he said last evening, March 15.

Dr. Pickering, who is contesting the April 24 general elections as an At-Large candidate under the National Democratic Party (NDP), was speaking at a meeting held by Scatliffe-Leonard at The Stickett.

"And I will be right there with her fighting for our community. To advance it and make it what it ought to be because Perline belongs to this community," Dr. Pickering said.

He said: "I am here to endorse Perline to be the next Representative of the Seventh District and then secondly I am here to beg for your vote as one of the At Large candidates in the next House of Assembly."

The former Natural Resources and Labour Minister commended Scatliffe-Leonard for her performance during the debate held in the district for the candidates seeking District 7 and District 8 seats.

"I admired Perline in that debate. She was sitting next to the Premier [Hon. Dr. Natalio Wheatley] of the country, a three-term incumbent Minister of government [Hon. Marlon Penn] and on the other side was the former Financial Secretary [Allen Wheatley] of the country. The only female and she was amongst three individuals who could have been her boss at one time or another. And she stood her ground like a champion and I was so proud of her," he expressed.

I Did My Part

Meanwhile, Dr. Pickering, who recently rejoined the NDP after running Independent in the 2019 elections where he was unseated, said that he did his part for the district.

"Ask yourselves a real question, is this community better off than it was four years ago? And if it isn’t then you understand why you need somebody like Perline who understands the needs of this community and who can do what is necessary to help this community lift from where it is," he said.

He said: "I did my part, I brought it along…look at what it is now, you forget what it used to be…Perline will take it to the next level."

Pickering who lost the district seat to now Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley, said that Perline will deliver.

"She is here tonight and she has delivered and she tells you that she is going to stand up for you and fight for you and I know Perline’s heart. I know she is not only committed but she is genuine to her bone," he expressed.

Adding, "that she will do her best to help this community and that is what we need in this time. We don’t need nice flowery speeches telling you this and telling you that."

General elections will be held on April 24.
