(PLTM) - Former first lady and At-Large candidate under the National Democratic Party (NDP) Mrs. Lorna Smith is saddened over the vandalism of her billboards.

"...In addition to my genuine concern for the troubling state of affairs of our beloved Territory, I have been deeply saddened by the way we have become so petty and destructive with our politics," Smith said in a Facebook post this morning, March 29.

She said while it is her humble intention to earn the support of the good people of the BVI, she has continued to respect the right of every Virgin Islander to support the candidate of their choosing.

"...Someone forwarded me this picture showing how persons are vandalizing my billboards. The thought that persons would stoop so low had never crossed my mind, as I have always believed in us as a people to take the high road."

The NDP At-Large candidate urged that persons focus on the issues.

"I would like to take this opportunity to ask all our supporters to focus your passion on the issues that are affecting us as a people, and not allow our politics to divide us. Let us each commit to an election that is free of violence, vandalism and intimidation," the former First Lady stressed.
