We Ain’t Getting The Thing Handled! Walwyn Decries Infrastructural Woes

(PLTM) - Sixth District Representative, Hon. Myron Walwyn has urged the Virgin Islands party (VIP) administration to seek external help in order to remedy the infrastructural challenges faced by the Territory.

Speaking in the House of Assembly recently, Hon. Walwyn stated that ‘we market ourselves’ as a luxury destination, but the current state of ‘our roads is not consistent with that marketing label’.

“The infrastructure of our country is crumbling, and it is very evident from our primary and secondary roads throughout the country,” Hon. Walwyn stated. He said that the reality is that the BVI has challenges fixing ‘our roads’.

“We external need help. We ain’t getting the thing handled! We need technical support in this area, and we should not be too proud to ask for it. We have failed our citizens miserably for years now in our ability to deliver a proper road network throughout the country. And as the young people say, this is fact,” Hon. Walwyn noted.

He also highlighted that there are homes in the BVI where people have absolutely no access to running water. In district 6, he explained where the water and sewerage department is located and where the Fort Hill and Sabbath Hill Reservoirs are located, residents of the district do not have access to running water after 7pm daily and some have no access at all.

“It is unacceptable in this modern Virgin Islands that our people have to fill bottles and pans with water and having to take a bath from buckets when we have a country with a budget of over 400M with a relatively small population and land mass,” Hon. Walwyn said.

He said that he understand that the problem has transcended governments and at this point blame is completely irrelevant, but it is time that the matter of access to potable water gets sorted.

I agree. Rogues Bay don\'t have no street water. Imagine a whole area like that and we paying taxes like everyone else.

Wasting money

It would never work because the side of the road lacks drainage. If water has nowhere to run it will settle, that\'s why pot holes keep on coming back. Create drainage on the side of the roads.

Why? That should be the question..Then the appropriate solutions should be implemented.. I went to St. Kitts, when I saw those Roads, I was like wow. Nice nice, well paved big Roads.. I am saying to myself. The BVI is so far behind...Maybe we need to get someone in from St. Kitts to supervised our Road projects, then another thought came to me, the people in the BVI are not concern about doing things right, they are more concern about how much they can get in their pockets..

I believe the company that did the roads in St kitts and most of the Caribbean is based either in Barbados or trinidad

give it a few years and that new surface asphalt will be pot holes. water can get below that layer.\nyes, it has to be done right. what happened to concrete? black tar heats the environment.

You don\'t think that I\'m the last 4 years how money was squandered these issues could have been addressed? Where the money gone that was left. Certainly monies were there because began in March 2019.

When mark vanterpool was there the roads was worst when he bring them equipment from china didn’t do a thing all the million spend no road fixed you Myron was in the house with him so talk p** as you back

And we saw where the money was going. However The vIP was there for 4 years and had sufficient time to fix what was not fixed but instead they used the money that was left there am squandered it on associates and other friends. As a previous writer said that started from March 2019.

WITH EXPERIENCE TO DO THE ROADS , SIMPLE COMMON SENSE WILL TELL YOU THAT / IF A PROPER FOUNDATION IS NOT PREPARED THE ASPHALT IS NOT GOING TO HOLD OR BOND TOGETHER PROPERLY , SO HOW IS GOING TO LAST ? ( PLUS IF YOU CHECK OUT SOME OF THE WORKERS DOING IT , WHO AIN\'T HALF DRUNK , HIGH ON WEED , BUT DON\'T BELIEVE ME ( DO A BLOOD TEST ON THEM , OR OBSERVE THEM CLOSELY WHEN YOU PASSING , OR CHECK THE GHETTO DURING WORKING HOURS , EVERYBODY DOING THEIR OWN THING , THERE IS NO RESPECT FOR THE JOB THAT THEY ARE PAID TO DO / WE KNOW THE MONEY IS SMALL BUT / DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN , SHOULD TELL YOU ITS NOT BEING DONE RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE ? , ISN\'T THERE SUPPOSED TO BE SOMEONE IN CHARGE WITH SOME KIND OF KNOWLEDGE ?
